Our history
1991
Franz Hilber was heavily involved with solar technology as far back as 1991. As a self-employed facade and metal worker, he undertook the planning and installation of early photovoltaic systems, winning awards in Toronto and Rome.
1997
In 1997, as a planning and development consultant for photovoltaic systems, he began a successful collaboration with SOLON AG, based in Berlin, taking on major projects such as a photovoltaic system integrated into the facade at ZARA in Cologne, facades and roof structures at the German Federal Ministry for Research and Technology in Erlangen and the building accommodating Bundestag representatives in Berlin.

2003
Franz Hilber’s development of the “Mover” - an astronomical-controlled solar tracking system – marked the beginning of an incredible success story. That same year he founded the HILBER TECHNIC COOPERATION GmbH in Steinach, where he embarked on the series production of this tracking system. The “Mover” remains an industry synonym for the production of renewable energy from the sun to this very day.

2006
SOLON HILBER TECHNOLOGY GmbH was founded in the wake of the merger with the publicly traded SOLON SE, Berlin, in 2005, enabling Franz Hilber to get one of the largest module manufacturers on board. This company continued to focus on manufacturing photovoltaic tracking systems accompanied by constant innovation and development.
With the opening of solar power plants such as the Technology Park Adlershof Berlin, a center for non-university research and science and the solar park Gut Erlasee in Arnstein (Bavaria) in 2006, currently the largest tracking solar power plant in the world with a total capacity of 12 MW, the company was able to establish itself very successfully on the photovoltaic market and build other large power plants e.g. in Spain, Arizona or Italy.
